Animal Welfare Organizations Unite to Help Shelter Pets Find Loving

by | Dec 22, 2025 | News | 0 comments

Seven North Texas animal welfare organizations are united for Silent Night, a foster campaign to help shelter pets celebrate the holiday season in loving homes. Pioneered by Dallas Animal Services more than five years ago, this is the first year the campaign has expanded to a collaboration between multiple organizations. Running from December 22 – December 28, the campaign aims to help 270 pets find foster homes, with the Humane Society of Dallas County seeking foster placements for its cats and dogs.

The holiday season is about spending time as a family, and fostering a shelter pet is a great way to build that bond while helping an animal who is still searching for a family to call their own. With children on holiday break and families spending more time at home, right now is the perfect chance to welcome a foster pet into your home.

Fostering a pet helps them become socialized, provides a break from the shelter, and lets future adopters learn more about the pet’s personality. Not only do you get to spend time with a new furry friend, but by signing up to foster, you are helping to make room in shelters for more pets needing aid.

Participating shelters include Operation Kindness Humane Society, SPCA of Texas, Dallas Animal Services, Fort Worth Animal Care and Control, Humane Society of Dallas County, Glen Rose and Carrollton.

“The holidays are meant to be spent surrounded by love, and every pet deserves to feel that too,” said Sarah McGoldrick, Vice President of Animal Operations of Dallas Pets Alive “Silent Night gives families a meaningful way to make a difference during the busiest time of year by opening their homes even temporarily and giving shelter pets the comfort, stability, and care they deserve.”

Fostering a pet from any of the participating shelters is completely free, and no experience is required. Each organization’s foster team will work with you to help match a pet that best fits your lifestyle and will provide ongoing support throughout your foster experience.

Since 2012, Dallas Pets Alive has worked to save the lives of healthy and treatable pets most at risk of euthanasia in North Texas. DPA focuses on animals with medical, behavioral, or situational challenges that traditional shelters may not be equipped to handle. Through rescue, rehabilitation, and adoption, Dallas Pets Alive helps pets find the care and second chances they deserve.

Dogs Matter expands this mission by supporting individuals and families during times of crisis, particularly those entering inpatient addiction recovery by ensuring their beloved pets are cared for while they focus on healing. Through temporary foster care, aftercare support, and access to resources, Dogs Matter removes barriers to prevent unnecessary surrender and helps keep people and their pets together.

The Humane Society of Dallas County provides compassionate sheltering, lifesaving care, and adoption services while serving as a trusted resource for the community. With a commitment to humane treatment, education, and access to care, HSDC plays a vital role in protecting animals and supporting pet owners across North Texas.

Together, Dallas Pets Alive, Dogs Matter, and the Humane Society of Dallas County have merged to form a unified animal welfare organization dedicated to helping both ends of the leash, pets and the people who love them. By combining rescue, sheltering, prevention, and community support, we are creating a stronger, more sustainable future where every pet has the opportunity for a safe, healthy, and loving home.
